Joe Errington has a Ph.D. from The University of Chicago, and has taught linguistic anthropology at Yale University for forty years where he has also been active in Southeast Asian studies. Aside from a broad historical review of linguists’ work in colonial contexts, he has published on sociolinguistic dynamics in several parts of Indonesia. This talk draws on the newest of these, a book from Oxford University Press: Other Indonesians: Nationalism in an Unnative Language.
