Audrey Gadzekpo, Ph.D., is a Professor of Communication Studies at the Department of Communication Studies and former Dean of the School of Information and Communication Studies, University of Ghana. She has 30 years of experience in teaching, research, and advocacy, primarily on media, gender development, and governance issues, and some 35 years of experience as a media practitioner.

Still, Many Miles Before We Sleep: The Ongoing Struggle for Gender Inclusion in Ghana

Starting from the late 1980's into the 1990's many African countries transitioned from authoritarian rule to democratic governance equipped with constitutions guaranteeing human rights and equality of all citizens, and the protection of civic spaces that enable activism on various fronts. But how well have we lived up to this
democratic ideal? My talk will focus on the contours and complexities of gender activism in contemporary Ghana and the challenges faced in advocating for the achievement of a truly gender-equal society.
